A woman’s risk of developing breast cancer is significantly affected by the density of her breasts. Most breast cancers occur in women with dense breasts, and the ability of mammography to detect breast cancer diminishes as breast density increases. We know from experience at Mercy Imaging, and from multiple studies, that we can find breast cancers in women with dense breasts missed on mammography using a new, FDA cleared, Automated Whole Breast Ultrasound Screening (AWBUS) examination offered at Dignity Health Advanced Imaging.
