Mercy Medical Group Honored for Achievements in Diabetes Care and Commitment to Health Care Quality

Mercy Medical Group, a service of Dignity Health Medical Foundation was recognized for its achievements in diabetes care by AMGA. AMGA honored seven organizations with 2018 Together 2 Goal® Awards, recognizing the top performers in AMGA Foundation’s Together 2 Goal® campaign, a national initiative uniting 150 medical groups and health systems in an effort to improve care for 1 million people with Type 2 diabetes by 2019. Mercy Medical Group received “Most Improved Large Group.”

“Mercy Medical Group is leading the pack in improving diabetes care,” said John W. Kennedy, MD, chief medical officer, AMGA, and president, AMGA Foundation. “We are proud to collaborate with groups to improve care for 1 million people living with Type 2 diabetes.”

As a part of the campaign, Mercy Medical Group implemented best practices to improve the quality of diabetes care and reported results for diabetes patients on a variety of measures, including blood sugar control, blood pressure control, lipid management, and testing for kidney disease.

“We are focused on delivering the right care at the right time through a coordinated team approach that keeps our patients healthier and improves outcomes,” said Dr. Antonio "Ben" Balatbat, Mercy Medical Group Department Chair of Internal Medicine and Board Member. “Benchmarking ourselves with the best medical groups in the country inspired us and this recognition by AMGA is an honor and a direct testament to our work to focus on diabetes and hypertension management for our patients.”

Earlier, Mercy Medical Group was also recognized for their ability to reduce heart attacks and strokes by the American Heart Association and the American Medical Association. Additionally, all Mercy Medical Group primary care sites received level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) recognition by NCQA.
